Presteigne Festival encourages local children to tell tales!

We throw our doors open for our Spring Opening on Friday 30th March with a remarkable exhibition of children’s art. It’s the culmination of a storytelling and art project run by Presteigne Festival, with funding from the Foyle Foundation and Hanfod Cymru, and local supporter Radnor Hills.

During October 2017, 120 children from Knighton, Presteigne and Radnor Valley primary schools, worked with storyteller Michael Harvey to create stories at the Bleddfa Centre and to follow up with work in school. Local artist Lois Hopwood also worked with the children over the three-day workshop to create visuals to illustrate the stories, making storyboards, sets and filming video animations.

Presteigne Festival Producer Alison Giles says, ‘We wanted to give every child involved a high quality experience leading to them sharing their work with families and the public, in a gallery exhibition space. We’re going to be displaying the artwork they made during the project, framed by Lois Hopwood’s inspiring work, and we’ll be showing the films the children have made throughout the exhibition period.’

Bleddfa Centre Manager Sarah Pearson says, ‘We hope to welcome the children and their families back to see the outcome of their work, and to invite all our visitors to enjoy a spring visit, not just to the exhibition, but also the Centre’s lovely village setting and historic neighbouring church. The Bleddfa Centre café will also be open, serving freshly made tea and coffee, cold drinks, light lunches and homemade cakes.’

The exhibition will be open over the Easter weekend, Friday March 30th to Sunday April 2nd, then Friday April 6th to Sunday 8th, 11am to 5pm at The Bleddfa Centre Old School House Gallery. For more information, you can contact The Bleddfa Centre on 01547 550377 or
